I like her style of writing. Then again the book can be summed up by a Phrase in the introduction. I bought the hardcover edition thinking it slouching towards bethlehem essays be a nice collectible version of one of my favourite books. this book is so small I can barely open it.


Think pocket sized bible. One person found this helpful. Joan Didion’s work is as relevant today as was when she wrote it. She writes in her own unique and original voice, which completely engages me and I find captivating.


I enjoy the history of the s and 60s, as she saw and experienced them, and then retold in her own literary journalistic style. A great read for anyone. Love Didion’s writing and her observations and impressions of the ‘60’s!


I bought this copy because, I had given my copy away and I love this book, as well because I am a communication designer and adore this cover, but this is not the cover I was delivered. I was pretty disappointed. The contents and the quality are great. Great book if you’re interested in that time time.


Wonderful to read Joan Didion, who wrote her essays in the 60's and 70's is a trip down memory lane. Highly recommend! Astonishing in it clarity, and made so much more sense to me now 47 years later. I bought this to read about JDs trip to San Francisco and Haight Ashbury. The first slouching towards bethlehem essays in the book. Her way of writing is quite dry and witty and details the experience eloquently. It's quite interesting that some hippie parents thought nothing of giving their 4 yo peyote! Occasionally engaging, occasionally duff, overall left a bad taste in my mouth.


It was exactly the product I ordered, same cover, age of book, not a substitute new copy. Very pleased.
